A corrupt cop gets in trouble when he runs over and kills a person. Now he must first get rid of the corpse, but it's easier said than done when everything goes wrong for the unfortunate policeman. When he first thinks it's all over, a new man shows up and makes his life miserable. A Hard Day is an entertaining South Korean movie with a twinkle in its eye. Things change along the way, it's not just about the corpse that the policeman tries to hide. There is something called karma, and he getsa visit from his bad karma! This is not a particularly realistic movie. A Hard Day is a real popcorn movie that has a mission, and that is to entertain the viewers. The policeman gets a visit from a lovely character who makes his life more difficult, and that we like! That character is the Terminator in this universe. Time never stands still in this movie. Something happens all the time. The only thing I missed was to care about the corrupt policeman, but the man is an asshole that you don't care about. So it's funny to see this character suffer,and I can guarantee you that he suffers a lot in this movie! Learn English by watching movies

And this is the show that teaches you to speak English powerfully. Many years ago, I was sitting in Spanish class. So I was in university, sitting in my Spanish class, another day of Spanish, (sighs)waiting for the teacher. And the teacher strolled in, and I'm thinking, "Oh God, another, another terrible class of grammar rules "and vocabulary lists." But on this day something different. The teacher was pushing a cart, right, with wheels that had a TV on top. So, instantly everybody in the class kind of sat up more straight and smiled, and there was a little bit of energy in the room, and we all looked at each other, and everybody was happy. This positive energy spread around the classroom. We all kind of giggled and laughed, and "Ah", "Ooh". Because we realized that it was Movie Day. Yes! No boring grammar rules, no boring vocabulary lists, no tests, no quizes - we were gonna watch a movie! Yeah! Movie Day was always a happy day in school, in any class, but especially in Spanish class. So the teacher hooked up the TV, plugged it in, and, of course, there was a VCR in those days, so they used tapes. There was a VCR, and the teacher put in the tape, and started the movie. Then she walked over and turned off the lights. So movies days were wonderful because it was a day where we didn't have to do anything, right. There is no real studying, no work, no stress; the teacher wouldn't call on us and force us to speak Spanish and make us all stressed out and worried. So I sat back ready to watch the movie, and the movie began. It was a story about, I don't know, an immigrant coming to America from Mexico. But because it was Spanish class, of course, the whole movie was in Spanish. So the teacher walked over to her desk and sat down, and started reading a book. And I could tell she was also happy, because no work for her, right? Just plug in the movie, press Play, and then sit back and relax forthe whole hour of the class. So, in the beginning ofthe movie I watched it with good concentration, and, of course, everybody speaking Spanish, and I couldn't understand anything. Basically - zero (laughs). So I'm watching - eh, but I'm watching the pictures, kind of following the story, kind of figuring out, kind of understanding what was happening. I managed to concentrate maybe for 10 minutes, but then after 10 minutes I could feel my energy dropping down. And I started getting tired: my shoulders dropped down, I leaned back, "Aah, oh, well, just enjoy the movie." (sighs) And then after 15 minutes my eyes got a little - we say "droopy" meaning they get kind of low like this, this is droopy eyes. So my eyes got droopy.
Then I looked around the classroom at the other students. (laughs) I looked over to my right, and I saw several students with their heads down on their desk, just like this. Just sleeping or resting, not even watching the movie, not even trying, just. Several others looked like me, most of the others looked like me: just sitting kind of bored-looking, with these blank faces, staring at the movie, but not understanding anything. And it stayed that way for the entire class. I got sleepier and sleepier - I didn't fall asleep, but I was kind of half awake and half asleep with this look on my face the whole time. More and more people in the class, my classmates, put their heads down on their desks. Some of them started whispering to each other, passing notes to each other, "Hey!" (whispers). In English, of course. Pretty much no one in the class paid attention to the whole movie because we couldn't understand it at all. Finally, at the end of class, the teacher put down her book that she was reading, walked over, stopped the movie about half way - because we couldn't watch the whole thing, the class was too short - walked over, flipped on the lights. And the bell rang "brrrring", and we all stood up and got our books, and hurried out of the class off to our next class. An hour wasted, but at least an hour without stress. Later in my life I became an English teacher. And I can remember, atseveral jobs that I had, walking by classrooms of other teachers and seeing the exact same situation, but in English. Looking through the door or the window, seeing an English teacher bring in the television, looking at all the happy faces of the students, because "Yay, an easy day of doing nothing!" And the teacher plugging in the television, popping in a movie - this time in English, turning off the lights, pressing Play. The teacher also happy walking to their desk, usually reading a book, or sometimes just, you know, laying back and resting and doing nothing; and little by little all the students in the class falling asleep (snores). That is how most people use movies or television shows to learn English - sadly. Now, at home I know that you might try to learn English with TV or movies. Perhaps you turn on CNN and you try to follow the news. Maybe you watch a movie on television, you watch the Star Network, or HBO, or whatever you can get in English. You turn it on, you press Play, and you watch the movie. And of course, what happens? Usually the same thing that happened to me in my Spanish class, the same thing that happened to all those students that I watched in English classes. In the beginning you try to follow what's happening, but you can't understand most of it: it's too fast, they use a lot of idioms, they use slang, they speak with maybe a little bit different accents. And so, you try to figure out the story from the pictures, but after a while your energy drops, your concentration drops, because it's too hard to understand. And then you finish the whole movie - maybe, and you have basically learned no English at all. And yet, around the world teachers continue to show movies to their classes in this exact same way. A waste of time. It's used as a waste of time; it's used as an easy day, a restful day. It's used as wishful thinking. It means we wish, we hope this will improve our English, because it feels fun, it feels easy to watch a movie. But the truth is using a movie in this way does not help, unless you're very, very, very advanced. Just watching a movie in English will not help your English. Why? Why not? Because you will not understand most of it, and if you don't understand, you are not learning. I learned zero Spanish watching movies in Spanish class. None. Zero. Nothing.
It was a complete wasted hour of time. If you simply put in a movie and watch it, you're also just wasting your time. Again, unless you're very, very advanced. And if you're advanced,if you're very advanced, if you understand most of the movies, most of the TV shows you watch in English, well, congratulations, you're doing a great job. But for most people, just watching a movie like that, it's a waste of time. So should we forget about movies? Should we forget about TV shows? No. In fact, TV shows and movies are possibly a very, very powerful tool for improving your English speaking. Much, much, much better than a textbook. You know, I hate textbooks because in textbooks the English- it's not real, it's fake. "Hello, how are you? "I'm fine. And you?" Who talks like that? Nobody talks like that. But in movies, movie English is much, much closer to the real English we use in the United States when we talk to our friends, when we're at work, at our jobs, when we're on the street chatting with people, when we go to a restaurant. Movies and television shows show you a much more real kind of English. Movies and TV shows have slang and idioms that we use all the time. They have very, very useful phrases. Perhaps the most important of all, movies and TV shows have real pronunciation. It's how we really pronounce words and phrases. We push some words together, we cut some words, some words we stretch and make longer. All of the real English speaking that we use in real life you can get from movies and television shows. So how do we use them correctly? How do you use them so you could really learn, you actually improve your English, not waste an hour of time or two hours of time? Well, you do it by using The Effortless English Movie Technique, which I will teach you right after I answer a few Twitter questions. When we come back, I will tell you exactly step by step how to use a movie or a television show to improve your English speaking and listening. But first let's go to a few Twitter questions. Twitter question time. Well, this is a good question. "AJ, which series or TV shows do you recommend us to watch "for learning English?" Great question! Perfect for our topic. I don't have just one to recommend, because it depends on you, right? If you love crime shows, for example, then you should watch crime shows. But what if you hate crime shows, well, then don't watch them. Maybe you prefer something more light, something more romantic, something a little funnier. So I won't tell you exactly what to watch, but I will tell you which types of TV shows or movies are best for you. So, the best kinds are modern. First of all, they need to be modern. Modern means they're in this time period in history. They can be a little bit old like from the 1980s, or '90s, or 2000s, that's okay - if you want something a little older for a movie or a TV show. You do not want a movie, however, about the far past. For example, an obvious example, you don't want a movie about Shakespeare's time period, or an actual Shakespeare movie. You don't want that. Why not? Because that kind of English, it's not normal anymore. Right? That old style of English, we don't use it anymore. Some of those old British movies about the 1900s, the British Empire. Some people might like them, they may be kind of romantic, but the style of speaking is very strange for this time period, we don't talk like that anymore. So you don't want that for learning English. You can do it if you just enjoy it for entertainment, but for English learning it needs to be something more recent, something about now. Recent history. Secondly, I recommend avoiding certain kinds of comedy.
For example, sitcoms. They're called situation comedies, or sitcoms, in the United States. Some of them, some of them are okay, but some of them can be very difficult to understand if you're not American. It's not the language actually, it's the culture. Because some of those shows, some comedies make jokes about our American culture, what's happening in American culture now. If you don't know about American culture, you will not understand the joke. It's not really an English problem, it's just that you don't understand it. For example, I might watch a show from Australia, a comedy, and some of them, I might not think they are funny, I might not understand the jokes, just because I'm not Australian, I don't know about Australian culture, or Australian current events, or Australian pop culture. So I might not find it so funny. So something modern. Dramas tend to be a little bit easier and better for English learning. Romantic comedies are usually good. There're also good movies or TV shows. So those types of shows or movies are best. Let's take another Twitter question, shall we? "Does avoiding error correction strengthen "our bad habits in speaking?" From Jaronsky from Poland. I know her very well. Also a good question. As you know, if you follow me on Periscope or on Twitter, you know I recently did a video about error correction. I told you to avoid it, to not ask someone to correct your errors. So, Jaronsky's worried that if she avoids error correction maybe she will create bad habits in speaking. That's a good thing to worry about. Because if you don't improve, indeed you might develop some bad habits. How do you avoid that? How do you continue to improve your grammar, your pronunciation, the words you know? You do it by focusing on what you want, as I said in my Periscope video, and by stydying and paying attention to native speakers, and also paying attention to what you do.
For example, you can study movies. Study the phrases that the actors use in the movie; study the vocabulary they use in the movie; study especially their pronunciation. Then compare your pronunciation, compare your vocabulary,compare your grammar to theirs. You don't need someone telling you you're wrong all the time, you can compare your speaking to theirs. For example, you could record yourself using a webcam, using a phone, using a little recorder - anything you want. Record yourself speaking English. I'll talk a little more about this when I talk about the movie technique. But record yourself, then listen to yourself speak English, then listen to the American actors speaking English. Compare. When you do this, you will hear a difference, and your brain will naturally understand what you're doing wrong,how you need to improve without stress. You will hear the difference and you'll start to improve, start to get closer and closer to the American pronunciation, the American use of grammar, etcetera. In this way you do it in a positive way focusing on what you want,focusing on the native speakers. All right, let's go back, shall we, to the movie technique. Time for me to teach you exactly how to use movies and television shows to improve your English. Step one. Perhaps the most important. Watch the whole movie and then - so just watch the whole movie, just to get a feeling for it. That's kind of step zero, introduction step. Just watch the whole movie as you would do before: watch it all, do the best you can to understand it. You could use even subtitles in your own language just to understand what's happening. That's kind of your pre-homework. But step one, the major part of the movie technique, is choose the first scene, the first two or three minutes, and watch only that. Not the whole thing, only the first scene. Turn on the subtitles or the captions in English - not your language, English subtitles or English captions. Watch only the first few minutes. You can read along. As you listen and read along, write down any words or phrases that you don't know. Then stop after three minutes, or pause after the first scene. Two or three minutes - pause. You now have a list of new vocabulary, new phrases. Use your little web dictionary, your little phone dictionary, or iPad - whatever, and find the meaning of those new phrases and new words. What do you do next? You go to the next scene, do you watch the rest of the movie? No, you do not. What you do is you rewind back to the beginning of scene one; you review your vocabulary with the meanings, so you understand the meaning; then you watch it againfor the second time. Just the first scene, played again. Subtitles still on, English subtitles. Watch it again, the first scene. Those new words will pop out, you will notice them more now because you wrote them down. After the scene ends, pause again. Review your vocabulary list quickly - just quickly, don't try to memorize it, don't make a lot of stress. It's not a test, you're not trying to memorize everything, just review, quickly review the new words and phrases. Any ones you don't remember, review the meaning. Relax. It should take maybe one minute to do this. Then what do you do? You guessed it? Rewind again back to the beginning, play again just the first scene. Again those new words will pop out, you'll hear them, you'llhear the actors saying the new phrases and words, and you remember most of them. Even after just three times you will remember the meaning of most of them. Now, on this first day rewind again, repeat this a few more times - two, three, four, five times maybe. Just the first scene. And relax, your day is finishedfor the movie technique. Stop. You're done with the movie for today. Tomorrow it's time again.
What should you do? Watch the whole movie? No. Again you will just focus on the first scene, the same first scene. This time turn the subtitles off. No subtitles. Not in English, not in your language. Start the scene, play the whole thing again, just two or three minutes. Listen very carefully. You'll hear all those new words and phrases, you should remember most. Pause at the end of the scene. Review your vocabulary list again that you wrote down. Maybe a couple of them you forgot - relax, no big deal, that's normal. But you review them - Ah! - and you remember them. What do you do? You guessed it. You rewind, play the same scene again. No subtitles this time, just listening very carefully. Now, this time you probably will remember everything. And your listening is getting better and better: you have now heard the scene many times, you're hearing the actors speak, and the speech and the speed is getting easier and easier for you. Rewind again, play; rewind again, play; rewind again, play. Again, four, five, six, seven, ten times for the day. This only takes 15 - 20 minutes,it's all, it's quite short. (claps) You're done for the day. Congratulations! Good job! Day three. What do you do? Day three, now you understand everything, right? You've listened to it with subtitles in English, then you listened with no subtitles, you reviewed all your vocabulary list many times - you remember everything, no problem. So day three, it's time to focus on working on your pronunciation. So day three, you start again at the beginning of the same scene, the same beginning scene, scene one. Play one sentence and pause. Then you repeat the sentence, try to copy the actors' pronunciation, say it the same way they say it. Then play the next sentence, pause. Again, copy what the actors say. And then sentence by sentence go through the whole scene, pausing and then you saying the same line.
Don't just say it mindlessly: ba-ba-ba. Use the same emotion as the actors. Use the same pronunciation as the actors. Listen very carefully to how the actors are saying each word, each phrase, each sentence, each line, and you say it exactly the same as they do. Your day is done after you do this three, four, five, seven, eight, ten times. Congratulations, done for the day! The next day still scene one. Start at the beginning again. Now you're going to shadow it. Remember the shadowing technique? This time you'll do the same thing - copy what the actors are saying - but no pausing this time, no pausing. You might want to turn on the English subtitles for this the first time. You might want to turn on so you can read, it'll help you a little. So you turn on the English subtitles and you play, and the actors at the scene, they all start talking. You, in a loud voice you say exactly what the actors are saying at the same time. At the same time. No pausing this time. So, you're hearing the actors speak, you're saying what they're saying at exactly the same time - or trying to. Of course, actually you'll be a little behind the actors, but try to be only a tiny bit behind them, just a little. Again, you can use the English subtitles a few times if this helps you. You play it, you rewind; you do it again, you rewind - shadowing each time, rewind. Play and shadow, rewind;play and shadow, rewind, play and shadow. Again, six, seven,eight, nine, ten times. The next day - on to the next scene, right? No. You're learning the scenes deeply, you're mastering the English, completely mastering it. So what do you do? Again you're going to shadow.
This time no subtitles,no reading at all, just hearing and speaking at the same time. Again, start at the beginning of the scene, play and speak along at the same time, copying what the actors are saying. Use their same emotion,use their same voice, because this is a video even use the same actions they do. If they're smiling when they speak, you smile; if they look like they're sad, you look like you're sad. Use the same face, use the same gestures with your hands, body movements - everything. Copy everything the actors are doing. Especially their voices. You play the whole scene and speak at the same time shadowing them, rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again -six, seven, eight, nine, ten times or more. Finally, the next day - this is an optional step, the optional step. The next day you can dothis again - shadowing, but record yourself. Record yourself while you shadow. So you play the movie, and then you have a recorder next to your voice - you're speaking loudly - and you speak along with the actors at the same time recording yourself as you do it. When you get to the end stop the movie, pause it, stop the recorder. Rewind the movie. Listen to the scene again, listen to the actors - no talking, just listen to the actors. Play it all again two or three minutes. Pause. Then play your recording,rewind and play your recording. Listen to yourself, compare yourself to the actors. How close are you? Do you sound like they do? Do you have the same rhythm? Do you have the same pronunciation of these different words and sounds? Does the emotion sound the same? Is the speed the same? No, of course, you will not be exactly like the actors. Of course not. But how close are you? And what's different? Notice what's different.
That tells you automatically how you need to improve. Just by comparing your brain will understand what you need to do. You don't need to get stressed about it, you don't need to worry about it, don't be upset, relax, it's okay. Let your brain do the work. It will automatically help you improve just by comparing the difference between you and the actors. After all of this you're finally ready to go to scene number two, the next little piece of the movie. And then you will repeat this entire technique, this entire process, all of the process. Repeat all of the steps again with scene number two in the movie. And then repeat all of these steps again with scene number threeand scene number four, slowly going through all of the movie. Will this be slow? Of course. Maybe you need a few months to finish just one movie, but you're not doing this for entertainment, you're doing this to improve your English. So after those three months you will master that entire movie. You will learn all of the vocabulary, all of the phrases in that movie. Your listening ability will be so much better, huge improvement. Your speaking and pronunciation will be much faster, much more natural, more fluent and a much clear accent. All of this - huge improvements. Gigantic, huge improvements to your English listening and your English speaking, your vocabulary, your spoken grammar - all of it will get much, much better by using this technique. So go slowly. This is how you properly, powerfully use movies and TV shows to improve your English speaking. This is the way to do it. Not the way my Spanish teacher did it, not the way those otherEnglish teachers do it - just play, and watch, and fall asleep (snores), no. Use this movie technique - you will get powerful results. In fact, just this weekend, last weekend, our VIP member Max from Italy - some of you know him, he talked about howmuch he has improved now by using the movie technique and watching television shows. He is watching TV shows now. He'd finished watching Breaking Bad, which a famous TVshow, American TV show, and he's watching other TV shows now. And he said in the beginning it was very difficult, but now he understands most of it. So he's made big, big improvements using the movie technique. You will also. All right, guys. Finally, let's talk about our Code, very important Code of Effortless English. The Code is, it's our guide, it's what creates this amazing international family of Effortless English. So I won't tell you exactly what to watch, but I will tell you which types of TV shows or movies are best for you. So, the best kinds are modern. First of all, they need to be modern. Modern means they're in this time period in history. They can be a little bit old like from the 1980s, or '90s, or 2000s, that's okay - if you want something a little older for a movie or a TV show. You do not want a movie, however, about the far past. For example, an obvious example, you don't want a movie about Shakespeare's time period, or an actual Shakespeare movie. You don't want that. Why not? Because that kind of English, it's not normal anymore. Right? That old style of English, we don't use it anymore. Some of those old British movies about the 1900s, the British Empire. Some people might like them, they may be kind of romantic, but the style of speaking is very strange for this time period, we don't talk like that anymore. So you don't want that for learning English. You can do it if you just enjoy it for entertainment, but for English learning it needs to be something more recent, something about now. Recent history. Secondly, I recommend avoiding certain kinds of comedy.
For example, sitcoms. They're called situation comedies, or sitcoms, in the United States. Some of them, some of them are okay, but some of them can be very difficult to understand if you're not American. It's not the language actually, it's the culture. Because some of those shows, some comedies make jokes about our American culture, what's happening in American culture now. If you don't know about American culture, you will not understand the joke. It's not really an English problem, it's just that you don't understand it. For example, I might watch a show from Australia, a comedy, and some of them, I might not think they are funny, I might not understand the jokes, just because I'm not Australian, I don't know about Australian culture, or Australian current events, or Australian pop culture. So I might not find it so funny. So something modern. Dramas tend to be a little bit easier and better for English learning. Romantic comedies are usually good. There're also good movies or TV shows. So those types of shows or movies are best. Let's take another Twitter question, shall we? "Does avoiding error correction strengthen "our bad habits in speaking?" From Jaronsky from Poland. I know her very well. Also a good question. As you know, if you follow me on Periscope or on Twitter, you know I recently did a video about error correction. I told you to avoid it, to not ask someone to correct your errors. So, Jaronsky's worried that if she avoids error correction maybe she will create bad habits in speaking. That's a good thing to worry about. Because if you don't improve, indeed you might develop some bad habits. How do you avoid that? How do you continue to improve your grammar, your pronunciation, the words you know? You do it by focusing on what you want, as I said in my Periscope video, and by stydying and paying attention to native speakers, and also paying attention to what you do.
For example, you can study movies. Study the phrases that the actors use in the movie; study the vocabulary they use in the movie; study especially their pronunciation. Then compare your pronunciation, compare your vocabulary,compare your grammar to theirs. You don't need someone telling you you're wrong all the time, you can compare your speaking to theirs. For example, you could record yourself using a webcam, using a phone, using a little recorder - anything you want. Record yourself speaking English. I'll talk a little more about this when I talk about the movie technique. But record yourself, then listen to yourself speak English, then listen to the American actors speaking English. Compare. When you do this, you will hear a difference, and your brain will naturally understand what you're doing wrong,how you need to improve without stress. You will hear the difference and you'll start to improve, start to get closer and closer to the American pronunciation, the American use of grammar, etcetera. In this way you do it in a positive way focusing on what you want,focusing on the native speakers. All right, let's go back, shall we, to the movie technique. Time for me to teach you exactly how to use movies and television shows to improve your English. Step one. Perhaps the most important. Watch the whole movie and then - so just watch the whole movie, just to get a feeling for it. That's kind of step zero, introduction step. Just watch the whole movie as you would do before: watch it all, do the best you can to understand it. You could use even subtitles in your own language just to understand what's happening. That's kind of your pre-homework. But step one, the major part of the movie technique, is choose the first scene, the first two or three minutes, and watch only that. Not the whole thing, only the first scene. Turn on the subtitles or the captions in English - not your language, English subtitles or English captions. Watch only the first few minutes. You can read along. As you listen and read along, write down any words or phrases that you don't know. Then stop after three minutes, or pause after the first scene. Two or three minutes - pause. You now have a list of new vocabulary, new phrases. Use your little web dictionary, your little phone dictionary, or iPad - whatever, and find the meaning of those new phrases and new words. What do you do next? You go to the next scene, do you watch the rest of the movie? No, you do not. What you do is you rewind back to the beginning of scene one; you review your vocabulary with the meanings, so you understand the meaning; then you watch it againfor the second time. Just the first scene, played again. Subtitles still on, English subtitles. Watch it again, the first scene. Those new words will pop out, you will notice them more now because you wrote them down. After the scene ends, pause again. Review your vocabulary list quickly - just quickly, don't try to memorize it, don't make a lot of stress. It's not a test, you're not trying to memorize everything, just review, quickly review the new words and phrases. Any ones you don't remember, review the meaning. Relax. It should take maybe one minute to do this. Then what do you do? You guessed it? Rewind again back to the beginning, play again just the first scene. Again those new words will pop out, you'll hear them, you'llhear the actors saying the new phrases and words, and you remember most of them. Even after just three times you will remember the meaning of most of them. Now, on this first day rewind again, repeat this a few more times - two, three, four, five times maybe. Just the first scene. And relax, your day is finishedfor the movie technique. Stop. You're done with the movie for today. Tomorrow it's time again.
What should you do? Watch the whole movie? No. Again you will just focus on the first scene, the same first scene. This time turn the subtitles off. No subtitles. Not in English, not in your language. Start the scene, play the whole thing again, just two or three minutes. Listen very carefully. You'll hear all those new words and phrases, you should remember most. Pause at the end of the scene. Review your vocabulary list again that you wrote down. Maybe a couple of them you forgot - relax, no big deal, that's normal. But you review them - Ah! - and you remember them. What do you do? You guessed it. You rewind, play the same scene again. No subtitles this time, just listening very carefully. Now, this time you probably will remember everything. And your listening is getting better and better: you have now heard the scene many times, you're hearing the actors speak, and the speech and the speed is getting easier and easier for you. Rewind again, play; rewind again, play; rewind again, play. Again, four, five, six, seven, ten times for the day. This only takes 15 - 20 minutes,it's all, it's quite short. (claps) You're done for the day. Congratulations! Good job! Day three. What do you do? Day three, now you understand everything, right? You've listened to it with subtitles in English, then you listened with no subtitles, you reviewed all your vocabulary list many times - you remember everything, no problem. So day three, it's time to focus on working on your pronunciation. So day three, you start again at the beginning of the same scene, the same beginning scene, scene one. Play one sentence and pause. Then you repeat the sentence, try to copy the actors' pronunciation, say it the same way they say it. Then play the next sentence, pause. Again, copy what the actors say. And then sentence by sentence go through the whole scene, pausing and then you saying the same line.
Don't just say it mindlessly: ba-ba-ba. Use the same emotion as the actors. Use the same pronunciation as the actors. Listen very carefully to how the actors are saying each word, each phrase, each sentence, each line, and you say it exactly the same as they do. Your day is done after you do this three, four, five, seven, eight, ten times. Congratulations, done for the day! The next day still scene one. Start at the beginning again. Now you're going to shadow it. Remember the shadowing technique? This time you'll do the same thing - copy what the actors are saying - but no pausing this time, no pausing. You might want to turn on the English subtitles for this the first time. You might want to turn on so you can read, it'll help you a little. So you turn on the English subtitles and you play, and the actors at the scene, they all start talking. You, in a loud voice you say exactly what the actors are saying at the same time. At the same time. No pausing this time. So, you're hearing the actors speak, you're saying what they're saying at exactly the same time - or trying to. Of course, actually you'll be a little behind the actors, but try to be only a tiny bit behind them, just a little. Again, you can use the English subtitles a few times if this helps you. You play it, you rewind; you do it again, you rewind - shadowing each time, rewind. Play and shadow, rewind;play and shadow, rewind, play and shadow. Again, six, seven,eight, nine, ten times. The next day - on to the next scene, right? No. You're learning the scenes deeply, you're mastering the English, completely mastering it. So what do you do? Again you're going to shadow.
This time no subtitles,no reading at all, just hearing and speaking at the same time. Again, start at the beginning of the scene, play and speak along at the same time, copying what the actors are saying. Use their same emotion,use their same voice, because this is a video even use the same actions they do. If they're smiling when they speak, you smile; if they look like they're sad, you look like you're sad. Use the same face, use the same gestures with your hands, body movements - everything. Copy everything the actors are doing. Especially their voices. You play the whole scene and speak at the same time shadowing them, rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again; rewind, do it again -six, seven, eight, nine, ten times or more. Finally, the next day - this is an optional step, the optional step. The next day you can dothis again - shadowing, but record yourself. Record yourself while you shadow. So you play the movie, and then you have a recorder next to your voice - you're speaking loudly - and you speak along with the actors at the same time recording yourself as you do it. When you get to the end stop the movie, pause it, stop the recorder. Rewind the movie. Listen to the scene again, listen to the actors - no talking, just listen to the actors. Play it all again two or three minutes. Pause. Then play your recording,rewind and play your recording. Listen to yourself, compare yourself to the actors. How close are you? Do you sound like they do? Do you have the same rhythm? Do you have the same pronunciation of these different words and sounds? Does the emotion sound the same? Is the speed the same? No, of course, you will not be exactly like the actors. Of course not. But how close are you? And what's different? Notice what's different.
That tells you automatically how you need to improve. Just by comparing your brain will understand what you need to do. You don't need to get stressed about it, you don't need to worry about it, don't be upset, relax, it's okay. Let your brain do the work. It will automatically help you improve just by comparing the difference between you and the actors. After all of this you're finally ready to go to scene number two, the next little piece of the movie. And then you will repeat this entire technique, this entire process, all of the process. Repeat all of the steps again with scene number two in the movie. And then repeat all of these steps again with scene number threeand scene number four, slowly going through all of the movie. Will this be slow? Of course. Maybe you need a few months to finish just one movie, but you're not doing this for entertainment, you're doing this to improve your English. So after those three months you will master that entire movie. You will learn all of the vocabulary, all of the phrases in that movie. Your listening ability will be so much better, huge improvement. Your speaking and pronunciation will be much faster, much more natural, more fluent and a much clear accent. All of this - huge improvements. Gigantic, huge improvements to your English listening and your English speaking, your vocabulary, your spoken grammar - all of it will get much, much better by using this technique. So go slowly. This is how you properly, powerfully use movies and TV shows to improve your English speaking. This is the way to do it. Not the way my Spanish teacher did it, not the way those otherEnglish teachers do it - just play, and watch, and fall asleep (snores), no. Use this movie technique - you will get powerful results. In fact, just this weekend, last weekend, our VIP member Max from Italy - some of you know him, he talked about howmuch he has improved now by using the movie technique and watching television shows. He is watching TV shows now. He'd finished watching Breaking Bad, which a famous TVshow, American TV show, and he's watching other TV shows now. And he said in the beginning it was very difficult, but now he understands most of it. So he's made big, big improvements using the movie technique. You will also. All right, guys. Finally, let's talk about our Code, very important Code of Effortless English. The Code is, it's our guide, it's what creates this amazing international family of Effortless English. Fractured is a suspenseful psychological thriller but are there way too many surprises in this Netflixoriginal movie fracture is a Netflix original movie that comes from BradAnderson the director of The Machinist while on their way home after a tense holiday weekend a father under the pressure of a failing marriage is forced to rush his daughter to a nearby emergency room after she falls andbreaks her arm then his paranoia gets the best of him when his wife and daughter go missing after being admitted now this is the kind of movie that lives and breathes based on the abilities of lead actor and in this story the entire film rests on the shoulders of Sam Worthington's character and for the most part Worthington does a pretty solid job in the role now I will admit there are certain parts of this movie that are pretty predictable but they still manage to work in a few and some might even argue too many unexpected surprises and twists and the film is definitely not for everyone well the dark themes and some pretty disturbing subject matter some folks might even find this movie tobe a bit upsetting and there's gonna be others who might even be disappointed by the ending but overall fractured is a pretty solid psychological thriller SamWorthington gives a convincing performance with a script that constantly keeps you guessing and even though the plot is a little predictable this is still one of the better Netflix original thrillers I've seen on the streaming service and that's why I get fractured a three

Jackson's characterValentine who's an evil tech billionaire before he wipes out a large portion ofthe Earth's population by using mind control computer chips manufactured outof his company I thought it was a clever plot what did you think about the actingin this film Frank well Colin Firth is absolutely perfect for the part of Galahad with his understated suave and debonair charm he is so cool and kicksass with class he's not a superhero with godlike powers but a mortal man withreally superior abilities and everything a guy would want to be at least I wouldwant to be like him just like I wanted to be James Bond when I was growing upwasn't it great what did you think about the main characters in these guys youcould tell a lot of time went into developing all the characters I thoughtall the actors did a fantastic job and I really enjoyed the villains there'sanother quote in the film bond movies are only as good as the villains orsomething along those lines but it's so true the other antagonist playedalongside Valentine's character was a character named Gazelle played by SofiaBoutella she has a standout role in this film in my opinion she has theseprosthetic legs that are kind of blade sword type contraptions and goes aroundthrough the film doing some serious damage it kind of reminded me of an oldschool Bond villain with the modern twistso Frank was there any other standout scenes that you liked oh I can think ofthree action scenes that I thought were amazingfirst when Galahad kicks it out of the jackass men in the bar then when hekills about a hundred people in the church oh my god that was non-stopviolence for over three minutes and set to one of my favorite songs free bird byLynyrd Skynyrd and then at the end of the movie whenEggsy battles the girl with the weapon legs that was very intense stuffwhat parts did you like best I also enjoyed the Freebird Church scene thatscene was wild but I think my favorite scene was the bar scene fight whereColin first character is told to leave the bar by some thugs he gives theimpression he's going to walk out but instead locks the door so no one cancome in or leave and proceeds to go to town on the thugs many of the James Bondstyle spy gadgets are revealed in this scene it was a lively scene so Frankwhat other aspects about the movie did you like Ryan I liked so much in thismovie for me the director Matthew Vaughn was right on and did a super job thismovie also had a bit of tongue-in-cheek in scenes that are very appropriate forour culture how about the plot elements that we are destroying the environmentand the government is going to do something about it and save us how abouthow corporate big shots influence and persuade government officials to do whatthey want really and what about how big tech usesthe phones we have to manipulate us this is going on right nowso Ryan I love this movie and the whole cast Colin Firth Taron Egerton MichaelCaine Mark Strong Sam Jackson Sophie Cookson Sofia Boutella all great inthis movie this Taron Egerton who played Eggsy is a great young actor and i wantto see him continue in these and other films i loved it so much I give it fourout of five of the RF scale well Frank I couldn't agree more the acting wastop-notch the story was cheeky in more than one way if you know what I meanFrank I'm referring to the princess scene like I mentioned before this filmis not always believable but it stays within the rules and was fun andentertaining the director Matthew Vaughn directed a movie in both the x-menand kick-ass franchises and is known to have said he doesn't do sequels but hebroke his own rule in this franchise and it seems to be paying off I rank thisfilm up there with some of the best movies we reviewed this year I give it afour out of five on the RF scale I can't wait to see what they do with numberthree well film fans that's it for this movieif you liked the review please subscribe and let us know in the comments whatmovie you would like us to review in the future it's all good hey Ry see younext time folks on the Ryan and Frank Show until then Get the inside know ontoday's hottest movies the classics that made Hollywood great interviews behindthe scenes and more this is the Ryan and Frank show here's your ticket

You should just be prepared to watch a few commercials and you’ll be good to go. There are a few points to be noted here. First off, Crackle works only in the US. But the people in other parts of the world can access it using any good and safe VPN. In fact, I am myself using a VPN right now to show you this site. Another point is that this a streaming site,you can stream Video on Demand but you cannot download movies. Now apart from popular ones, Crackle also has their original movies and TV shows which you can again watch for free. And they also have apps on both app store and play store. All in all, Crackle is a complete package for binge watching free movies and TV Shows. Let’s move onto the 2nd website, PlutoTV. As the name might suggest, this website is more like a TV. They have mimicked the interface of a TV and so the programs run live and therefore you can only stream the content, downloading is not possible. The collection is nonetheless superb withmovies such as Stuart Little and Kung Fu Hustle. PlutoTV works seamlessly in the US but cancause problems in other places. So the best solution would be again, to usea VPN. They also have apps working for almost allplatforms. The interface is very clean and smooth andthat makes the experience even better. Now that we’ve spoken about websites thatwork well in the US, let’s look at a website that is doing really well in India. Hotstar is a video on demand, hindi entertainmentwebsite that belongs to Star India. Now people outside India will have to accessHotstar using a VPN. They have a vast collection of free Hindimovies and TV shows such as Drishyam, Jolly LLB 2 and Masterchef India. But the entertainment doesn’t stop there,you can also watch live TV, sports, comedy series and news. By the way, it also has movies in other languages,including English, Telugu, Malayalam, etc. The latest content on Hotstar cannot be downloaded,but some of the older movies can be. Also, their apps on the app store and playstore are very well-designed and can give you the perfect on-the-go viewing experience. The 4th website on our list is Retrovision,which is a platform for all those who love the classics. It has a great collection of some amazing classic movies and TV shows such as Sherlock Holmes and Godzilla. The best thing about Retrovision is it’s genre specific menu. This categorization makes it very easy tobrowse through the website. Another great thing is that this website can be accessed from anywhere in the world, it’s not location specific. Now it’s a streaming site and therefore doesn’t allow you to download content. And it has an Android app called Classic UHF. You should definitely try Retrovision if you’re a fan of Classics. Coming to the 5th website, PopcornFlix. First of all, let me take a moment to appreciate the name of the website, PopcornFlix is such a cool name it has won my heart with the name itself. And it has stayed true to its name, it’s got plentiful amazing movies and tv shows such as the Adventures of Tintin and the PaddingtonBear. The genres include action, drama, comedy,romance, sci-fi, etc etc. You get the drift, it covers almost every genre possible. One thing to keep in mind is the commercials,you’ll have to deal with them to be able to watch the content on this site. Now its owned by Screen Media Ventures andeven though it was initially available only in US and Canada, it recently launched in36 more countries. Sadly, most of its content is still not available in India, so VPN it is for us. The site doesn’t give you the option to download content, you can only watch it online. One real cute thing is this comment box. You can put down comments for specific moments in the movie and there’s also an option to put up GIFs. They also have apps on both app store and play store and I feel that Popcornflix is a great option for watching free and legal movies on the internet. And last but not the least, the most popular platformfor videos and for movies and tv shows - YouTube. You might not know this, but there are manyways in which you can watch movies and tv shows for free on YouTube. The most direct of them is to go the moviessection and browse through the collection of free, ad supported movies. This section was recently made free but only in the US. As of now everyone else will have to use VPNto binge away on these free movies. Apart from that, there are various other channels which post some good movies from time to time. You should just be prepared to watch a few commercials and you’ll be good to go. There are a few points to be noted here. First off, Crackle works only in the US. But the people in other parts of the world can access it using any good and safe VPN. In fact, I am myself using a VPN right now to show you this site. Another point is that this a streaming site,you can stream Video on Demand but you cannot download movies. Now apart from popular ones, Crackle also has their original movies and TV shows which you can again watch for free. And they also have apps on both app store and play store. Hotstar is a video on demand, hindi entertainmentwebsite that belongs to Star India. Now people outside India will have to accessHotstar using a VPN. But the entertainment doesn’t stop there,you can also watch live TV, sports, comedy series and news. And it has stayed true to its name, it’s got plentiful amazing movies and tv shows such as the Adventures of Tintin and the PaddingtonBear. The genres include action, drama, comedy,romance, sci-fi, etc etc. You get the drift, it covers almost every genre possible. One thing to keep in mind is the commercials,you’ll have to deal with them to be able to watch the content on this site. Now its owned by Screen Media Ventures andeven though it was initially available only in US and Canada, it recently launched in36 more countries. Sadly, most of its content is still not available in India, so VPN it is for us. The site doesn’t give you the option to download content, you can only watch it online. 2018 is shaping up to be a banner year forsci-fi enthusiasts. From a new entry to the Star Wars franchise to big-budget book-to-screenadaptations to some very novel property ideas, here's a look at what the next year holdsin store for the cinematic genre. The Beyond This feature-length debut from Haz Dullul,who previously worked as a visual effects artist on films like The Dark Knight and Hellboy2, will be a loose adaptation of his 2013 short film Project Kronos. The Beyond is set in the near future whenrobotically augmented astronauts embark on an interstellar journey through a recentlydiscovered wormhole. Judging by the trailer, we're in for a wild ride when this premiereson digital streaming services on January 9th. Maze Runner: The Death Cure The third adaptation of James Dashner's dystopianMaze Runner novels, The Death Cure has been a long time coming. The film was originallyslated for a 2017 release, but a severe on-set injury to lead actor Dylan O'Brien temporarilyhalted production on the pic and delayed its release 'til next year. "It stops when we find a cure." "There is no cure!" It's since been completed, and The Death Curewill follow the Gladers' continued battle with WCKD in one spectacular final showdownthat hits theaters January 26th. Annihilation Based on the acclaimed 2014 novel of the samename by Jeff VanderMeer, and directed by Ex Machina's Alex Garland, Annihilation followsa biologist as she goes searching for answers about her husband's disappearance by joiningan expedition into an environmental disaster zone. With a trailer that's already packed withstunningly eerie imagery, there are sure to be a lot of surprises when this movie landsin theaters on February 23rd. A Wrinkle in Time For fans of Madeleine L'Engle's classic 1962science-fiction/fantasy novel, Ava DuVernay's live-action take on A Wrinkle in Time can'tcome soon enough. The novel has been adapted for film once before,in a 2003 Disney-distributed TV movie which was poorly-received by most viewers, includingL'Engle herself, who said, "I expected it to be bad, and it is." But with an all-star cast and the Selma directorat the helm, the new take is already shaping up to be an out-of-this-world experience whenit appears on March 9th. Pacific Rim: Uprising Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim may not havebeen a box office smash, but it was well-received by critics and audiences alike and has finallygotten its long-overdue follow-up by way of Uprising. The sequel is helmed by Stephen DeKnight,and while plot details are scant so far, we do know that John Boyega will feature as JakePentecost—the son of Idris Elba's character Stacker from the first film. There'll alsobe three new Jaegers featured in the movie, and it'll take place several years after theevents in the first installment, so brace for impact, giant mech fans, when this monsterhits theaters on March 23rd. Ready Player One Steven Spielberg is giving science fictionfans something to salivate over with his adaptation of Ernest Cline's buzzy book Ready PlayerOne. "In 2045, there's nowhere left to go. Nowhere,except the Oasis." The story follows its young hero through avirtual reality maze of pop culture references as he fights to find an Easter egg that willearn him a fortune in the midst of a global energy crisis. And from the looks of earlyfootage, the movie promises to be a mind-blowing experience when it treks to the silver screenon March 30th. Rampage Monster movies may have fallen out of voguein recent years, but Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may change all of that with the big screenadaptation of Rampage. The film is based on the classic 1980s arcade game of the samename, which features three gigantic monsters rampaging through cities around North America.The producers of the movie have confirmed that the main monsters from the franchisewill be back for the film, which means we'll soon be watching The Rock face off againsta giant crocodile, a mega-gorilla, and an enormous wolf. "Oh, you didn't know about the 30-foot wolf?" While this sounds like a goofy action blockbusteron the surface, director Brad Peyton also promises that Rampage will be "...a lot more emotional, a lot scarier anda lot more real than you'd expect." We'll have to wait and see whether The Rockcan work his box office magic again when Rampage drops on April 20th. "I think we'll be alright." Solo: A Star Wars Story The upcoming Star Wars film about Han Solohas hit some bumps along the way, but, if it's anything like its predecessors, this'llbe one out-of-this world experience for audiences. The standalone movie will follow a young HanSolo, played by Alden Ehrenreich who takes over for Harrison Ford, and will showcasethe character's exploits before the events of A New Hope. He'll be joined by Donald Gloveras a young Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, taking over for Peter Mayhew. In addition to these established Star Warscharacters, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, andmore will all appear in supporting roles. While shooting was underway in early 2017,production was halted after Lucasfilm fired co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Millerdue to ongoing creative conflicts with both Lucasfilm executive Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriterLawrence Kasdan. However, Lucasfilm quickly hired Ron Howard to complete principal photographyand reshoots. Judging by his willingness to sprinkle the fanbase with clues already, havingHoward at the helm will make this one outstanding intergalactic adventure when Solo hits theaterson May 25th. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom While many other reboots have floundered inrecent years, Jurassic World took the world by storm and earned over $1.6 billion dollarsin the global box office while reintroducing scary dinosaurs to the mainstream once again. Round two of the revived franchise is JurassicWorld: Fallen Kingdom, which promises a return to its roots with a much darker tone thanthe first installment. Plot details on Fallen Kingdom are still slim,but we do know that stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and B. D. Wong will reprisetheir roles from the first installment, while Jeff Goldblum will return as the philosophicalDr. Ian Malcolm—which is his first return to the franchise since 1997's The Lost World.Malcolm's importance in this sequel is hinted at strongly in the film's tagline: "Life, uh, finds a way." Hints from those involved with the movie indicatethat the plot may involve multiple competing labs hatching their own dinosaurs off theisland, the ethical issues in how they're using them, and how they'll coexist with humansin the rest of the world. The movie will return to Isla Nublar for atleast part of the film, and keep a watch out for the original Jurassic Park T-Rex, whichwill also be making a comeback. With a promise that this sequel will be "more suspensefuland scary" than previous installments in the franchise, and with horror film director J.A.Bayona at the helm, it sounds like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be a must-watchwhen it finally arrives on June 22nd. Alita: Battle Angel Following in the footsteps of Oldboy and Ghostin the Shell, Alita: Battle Angel will bring us the latest science fiction movie basedon a manga. The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez, and will feature Rosa Salazar inthe title role, with a supporting cast including Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein,Michelle Rodriguez, Keean Johnson, and Jennifer Connelly, among others. Plot details have been scarce so far, butwe do know that it will focus primarily on the plot of the manga's first four volumes,particularly on the futuristic sport of "motorball." The film has been a passion project of producerJames Cameron, who became a fan of Yukito Kishiro's original manga nearly two decadesago. He's been trying to get the film made ever since, although he's had to delay productionalong the way in order to finish his Avatar films and develop the additional technologyneeded to do Alita correctly. With Cameron and Rodriguez leading the way, Alita: BattleAngel is sure to please science fiction fans, action fans, and manga fans alike when itreaches the silver screen on July 20th. The Predator While The Predator is actually the fourthfilm in the core Predator series, chronologically, it's set in the present day, between the eventsof 1990's Predator 2 and and 2010's Predators. The film will star Boyd Holbrook as an ex-Marinewho discovers that the Predators exist, and recruits a team to help hunt them down. Roundingout his team include castmates Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan Michael-Key, SterlingK. Brown, Alfie Allen, and child actor Jacob Tremblay, who will play Quinn's son. The othersupporting cast members include Yvonne Strahovski and Edward James Olmos, as well as Jake Busey—whowill make an appearance as the son of "Peter Keyes" from Predator 2, who was played byhis real-life father, Gary Busey. Shane Black, who played "Hawkins" in the originalPredator, has returned to the franchise—this time as the director. Black wants to keepthe spirit of the original film alive for this sequel, and has made it clear that itwon't be rated PG-13. Cast member Sterling K. Brown has also dropped hints that The Predatorwill have many "wicked" funny moments, much like the original film. If Black can trulycapture the nostalgia of Predator while keeping the story fresh, Predator should be a trueblockbuster when it hits theaters on August 3rd. Captive State Based on the buzzy screenplay written by RupertWyatt and Erica Beeney, Captive State will star John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Ashton Sanders,Jonathan Majors, Kevin Dunn, and Machine Gun Kelly, among others. The official description tells us the moviewill be: "Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decadeafter an occupation by an extraterrestrial force, [and] explores the lives on both sidesof the conflict—the collaborators and dissidents." You can catch the film in theaters on August17th. The Darkest Minds This upcoming science fiction/superpowersmovie is based on the novel of the same name by Alexandra Bracken. The Darkest Minds isbeing directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson in her her live-action directorial debut. The story centers on the years after a diseasesweeps America, killing nearly all of the children, as the surviving kids develop uncontrollablesuperhuman abilities and are confined to internment camps around the nation. Hunger Games starAmandla Stenberg will star as Ruby, a girl who decides to break out of the camp and joina group of rebel teens in a plot to bring down the government which wants them keptunder lock and key. Joining Stenberg are Harris Dickinson, MandyMoore, Patrick Gibson, Skylan Brooks, and Gwendoline Christie, who will play a brutalbounty hunter tasked with tracking down the missing teens. Since it's based upon a young-adultnovel, the live-action adaptation of The Darkest Minds will likely be a PG-13 film that willappeal to teens and adults alike and will premiere on September 14th. Mortal Engines Based on the novel of the same name by PhilipReeve, Mortal Engines will take us into a futuristic steampunk world following the ravagesof a "Sixty Minute War." In this future, cities are now mobile, moving around the world propelledby gigantic engines and wheels. Along the way, the cities cannibalize smaller townsto replenish their own resources. Long-time Peter Jackson storyboard artistand collaborator Christian Rivers will make his feature-film directorial debut with MortalEngines, while Jackson will produce. The screenplay was also written by Jackson, along with hisfrequent writing partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. Starring Robert Sheehan, Hera Hilmar, RonanRaftery, and Hugo Weaving, Mortal Engines should be a visual extravaganza with a compellingstory that will blow viewers away when it floats into theaters on December 14th. Code 8 Not only is Code 8 the first feature filmfrom actors Robbie and Stephen Amell, it also was nearly completely crowdfunded via an Indiegogocampaign. In 2016, the Amells—who are cousins—released a 10-minute-long short film, which they wereseeking to expand to feature-length. In it, the Amells take a different view on the "mutant/superpower"trope. In their future, approximately four percent of people have various supernaturalpowers, but they're mostly shunned by the rest of the population. Forced to live onthe fringes of society, "specials" struggle with poverty and have to take low-paying jobsas day laborers to make ends meet. When two of the specials get into a confrontation withmilitarized police, things go violently wrong. Starring Robbie and Stephen Amell, Sung Kang,Aaron Abrams, and Chad Donella, principal photography on Code 8 began in June 2017,and is tentatively slated for a December 2018 release.
